President's Welcome - James Cummings

Welcome to the web site of the Southern California chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Our website is designed to introduce you to the officers and directors of our chapter as well as keep you abreast of the chapter activities both future and past.

The events section of the website lists all future chapter sponsored events. Some events are still in the planning stages, but their scheduled time and date are indicated so that you may mark your calendar to save the date. The next big event is the Fall Conference, at the Newport Beach Hyatt Regency. The Fall Conference is a two day educational event that is co-sponsored with the Northern California chapter of HFMA. The keynote speakers at the Fall Conference this year are Steve Ford, the actor and son of former president Gerald Ford, and Jeanne Scott the Washington DC talking head.

Our recent events have been very well received and very well attended. We held four educational events this summer, three were geographic educational programs. Geographic programs are repeats of the same program for three consecutive days in three geographically disparate locations (San Luis Obispo, San Bernardino, and Orange). Our traditional education program was held at the Long Beach Marriott and one of the featured speakers was Paul Crofton of the PRRB.

King Bechtel and Sherry Weaver of the Social and Networking committee have also been very busy this summer. They organized and hosted two separate tours of the Getty Villa. Many members told me that they enjoyed the private tour of the ancient architecture and art works.

Rick Lash, the President-Elect and I attended the Region 11 Fall President’s meeting at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of the Island of Oahu. We met with the presidents and president-elects of the other six HFMA chapters in Region 11. We shared best practices and ways to maintain the success of our jointly sponsored Region 11 Symposium, which is held every January in Las Vegas, Nevada.
